Amidst the COVID-19 crisis and enhanced community quarantine, Grade School winnings remained unstoppable as another victory from Kelly Anne De Belen of Grade 4 – Justification was awarded as first place in an online slogan making contest conducted by the Quezon City Public Library – District 1 with its theme “Giving a Tribute to our frontliners: Our heroes during the COVID19″.
With an aim to continually enhance the creativity of children during the quarantine and to show appreciation and respect to our frontliners, the said online slogan contest was first announced through the Facebook page of the Quezon City Library for the first 20 participants opened to students 10-15 years of age last April 28. The page has some 13k likes to-date and is the official social media account of the city library.
All entries were posted last April 29 at QCPL FB account (Aklatan Distrito Uno) and the participants were given the mechanics of sending at least a 30–second video of the actual making of the slogan and one (1) photo of the output in .JPEG format.
The Percentage of scores of the final output of the slogan were based on the number of likes/reacts (50 percent) garnered until April 30 and by judging (50 percent).
Respective winners from Marikina City, Valenzuela City, and Quezon City combined the top three spots and were officially announced last May 1 as part of the Labor day celebration and as a sign of gratitude to our hardworking frontliners.
The incoming grade 5 OLOPSCian, the winner, was also given congratulatory posts through the OLOPSC Marikina and Grade School FB pages with her parents’ consent from the school. In a messenger interview, Kelly’s mom shared that winning the top spot of her daughter was unexpected for her, “It was unexpected because what she wanted is to join and give her simple message to all frontliners in this ECQ.”
When asked about the idea of joining the contest, Kelly’s mother also said that she just saw an FB post about the online slogan making contest. “I (mom) saw a shared post from a friend about the online slogan and asked Kelly and her cousins to join. Kelly together with her cousins came up with an idea about the slogan,” Mrs. De Belen said.
Even before the online slogan making contest, the grateful kid had also been sending customized cards via email to other frontliners. “Before this, she already sent customized cards via email to all patients, doctors and nurses,” the mom added.
In Kelly’s message, she thanked all the doctors, nurses, and other frontliners for combatting the COVID-19 pandemic. “To all frontliners, we are so proud of you. All your dedication and hard work to serve our people are genuine. Thank you for all the services and care. You are truly a hero,” said the Grade School OLOPSCian who submitted her work online in a hand-drawn colored pencil output.
Indeed, no quarantine can hamper our students in sending appreciation to our modern-day heroes. Moreover, here is sending hats off to all the people who tirelessly offer their dedication and take risks working as frontliners. May heartfelt messages and random acts of kindness continuously spread in this time of pandemic.
