Field Training on Tour Guiding at Nueva Ecija

November 24, 2015 – a follow-up field training on tour guiding was conducted and participated in by professors and Years II and III students of BS Tourism during the Nueva Ecija Tour of the Grade 9 students of OLOPSC High School. Prior to this, a similar activity was conducted in the same locale on November 16, 2015.

The BS Tourism trainees took over the tour in the E-Farm. They assisted in supervising and monitoring the Grade 9 students. They explained the rice charts, interacted with the students the whole time, planted rice, caught piglets, milked carabaos, caught fish and even experienced ploughing the rice fields.

The next stop at PhilRice gave the Grade 9 students as well as the BS Tourism students a memorable learning experience by viewing the exhibits of the different kinds of rice grown in the Philippines. The Grade 9 students enjoyed wandering about in the exhibit area to capture the scenic view of the place.

The last destination was the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) where the students watched a documentary film showing the importance of PCC as a sector of the agriculture industry, how the institute helps the farmers and how it contributes to the nationwide needs of the country. After viewing the short clip the BS Tourism trainees took the Grade 9 students to where the carabaos are kept and bred for milking.

The next stop was at the PCC’s pasalubong store, the Dairy Box. The college students and their professors spent the time in their respective buses recounting how their day went while the Grade 9 students took their time buying pasalubong,.

The trip took off at around 4 o’clock in the afternoon and had the final stop at Mexico, Pampanga for dinner. As the trip neared the said stop, the college trainees took the chance to thank the Grade 9 students for their participation; expressed their appreciation to the teachers and the company tour guides for acknowledging their presence and letting them be part of their educational tour.

The day’s activity was wrapped up with a post conference led by the tour provider’s head guide. Everything that transpired during the tour was discussed. Despite the challenges experienced by the BS Tourism students, it was a time well-spent having been a full day of great learning experiences for everyone.
